Generally, actresses are unlike the characters they play, but Melissa Sue Anderson is simply not one of them. Melissa , born September 26th, 1962 in Berkeley, California, was in real life, very much the same as Mary Ingalls - a quiet slightly shy girl who would rather read a book than climb a tree. Her professional acting carreer got under way when a dance teacher urged her parents to find an agent for her. She began doing TV commercials, and the blond, blue-eyed beauty came to be in great demand for many roles. She starred in television movies and series such as "The Brady Bunch", "Shaft", "The Equalizer, and "Murder, She Wrote".
Melissa Sue Anderson played Mary Ingalls for seven seasons. During this period, she won an Emmy for her performance in "Which Mother Is Mine?", a 1979 ABC Afternoon Special. To avoid confusion with “Little House” co-star Melissa Gilbert, Melissa was tagged with the nickname "Missy," which has stuck to this day. Melissa Sue Anderson went on to appear in movies such as “An Innocent Love”, “First Affair” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo”. In 1998, she played a leading role in the TV movie "Earthquake in New York".
She continues to pursue a part-time acting career, preferring to spend more time with her two children by Michael Sloan whom she married in 1990.
