Matthew played the role of an orphan taken in by Charles Ingalls and his family.
The actor was 9 when he came to national attention in “Pappa and Me” with his moving portrayal of a boy who learns about death as a part of life when his beloved grandfather dies. Matthew also appeared in “Killing Stone” as the son of a free-lance journalist, and was the star of the Saturday morning series, “The Red Hand Gang.”
Matthew’s brother, Patrick, also had a recurring role in the “Little House on the Prairie” playing Merlin Olson’s son.
